Crane Wireless Monitoring Solutions Ships MicroObserver Ground Surveillance Systems to US Army’s Rapid Equipping Force
RICHARDSON, Texas – October 12, 2009 – Crane Wireless Monitoring Solutions (WMS) announced today that they have delivered their integrated Ground Surveillance Systems to the US Army’s Rapid Equipping Force (REF) for remote surveillance and force protection of troops in theater as part of a recent $3M Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract. These fully integrated, networked communications systems include the Crane WMS MicroObserverâ Unattended Ground Sensors (UGS) system along with support, training, maintenance and spares. The Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract, which was awarded in September 2008, is valid for two years.
According to Charlie Stuewe, Vice President and General Manager of Crane WMS, “This contract with the Army REF is an important step in our efforts to improve the UGS solutions currently available for use by our Military personnel. Our MicroObserver system has been designed for covertness and optimal performance in rugged terrain, and we are pleased to see it being used in a manner to alert and aid our troops.”
The MicroObserver sensor network will detect, classify and track personnel and vehicles moving through a monitored area and can run unattended for at least one year. The MicroObserver UGS system utilizes a custom-built wireless platform specifically designed to work in rugged, non line-of-site conditions. “We are excited to see our force protection solution going into theater,” said Stuewe. “This contract will allow our troops to multiply their forces using the MicroObserver system in some of the most difficult conditions in the world in regards to detection and radio transmissions.”
In addition to force protection applications for ground troops in rapid deployment scenarios, the MicroObserver system can be used to supplement traditional surveillance systems and is also being used in border security and other ground surveillance applications around the world.
